It's usually a good idea to contribute to the tax-advantaged retirement and health care accounts available to you. And here's some good news: In 2024, you can put even more into these accounts. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced these cost-of-living adjustments: Individual Retirement Account (IRA) – You can contribute up to $7,000 to an IRA for 2024, up from $6,500 this year. The "catch-up" contribution for individuals 50 or older remains $1,000. You can always "max out" on a traditional IRA, but some of your contributions may not be tax deductible, depending on your income.  Nancy and Barry Garton have been in the food service business for more than three decades. They are retiring after the operating Brewhaha for the last 23 years. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Brewhaha owners Nancy and Barry Garton have sold the cafe and are looking forward to a well-deserved break. Although, saying goodbye has not been easy. "To me, it has always been the relationships with our people. I love it here and the fact that they appreciate what we try to do," Nancy said on Monday. MCLA Women's Basketball Loses Heart-Breaker on Road| 12:23PM / Sunday, December 03, 2023 | | SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Taryn White scored 17 points Saturday to lead the Mount Holyoke women's basketball team to a 54-53 win over MCLA. The Trailblazers overcame a seven-point deficit with four minutes left to take a 53-51 lead on Kristie Zator's 3-pointer with 43 seconds left. But Mount Holyoke's Libby Harris hit a 3 13 seconds later to give her team the lead for good. Harris finished with 16 points. Zator led MCLA with 16. Wahconah graduate Eva Eberwein scored 10 points in the loss. MCLA (1-6) hosts Anna Maria on Monday.  Lou Ann Quinn, who was described as a perfectionist, noticed that her plaque was slightly off-kilter. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Berkshire Medical Center colleagues took a moment in the emergency room to honor Lou Ann Quinn and her 47-year career caring for North County. Quinn, a registered nurse and director of operations for the North Adams Campus, recently retired but visited the hospital Monday as friends and colleagues unveiled a plaque memorializing her permanently in the emergency room. City Woman Wins Hometown Holidays Gift Basket |

Jonathan Secor had some help in pulling the winning ticket.
Congrats to Janet O'Neill of North Adams who won the big Hometown Holidays gift basket on Thursday. O'Neill won some $1,300 worth of gift certificates and merchandise.
The drawing could be entered by spending $50 downtown during the Thursday night Hometown Holiday events. Jonathan Secor of MCLA Gallery 51 said 62 people had entered the contest (including the editor of iBerkshires &mdash amazing how much cat toys cost nowadays).
Secor contacted O'Neill who was excited and surprised at winning. "No, I'm not kidding," Secor assured her
