North Adams Package Store Being Sold

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Dave's Package Store on River Street will soon be under new management.   The License Commission on Tuesday approved a transfer of the beer/wine package store license from RMR Enterprises LLC to Shahmer LLC, represented by Abbas Choudhry.    The package store has been located on the corner of River and Eagle street since 1959. It was for decades known as Lopardo's but also had a short life as River Street Package Store before David Atwell purchased it and opened in late February 2018.   Atwell said he's just been too busy with his other businesses — another package store in Dalton and the Thrifty Bundle laundrymat in North

New Team Taking Over Desperados in North Adams

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Desperados Mexican Restaurant is set to reopen on Thursday under new management.    A sign announcing the reopening went up on the door of the Eagle Street restaurant on Tuesday, more than two weeks after the business temporarily suspended operations.    The announcement was made by the new team of chef Chris Bonnivier of Adams and his partners Sandra Lopez Nieves and Joseph Bevilacqua.   "Our vision is to continue the current menu, but make a few improvements that best showcase both Sandra and Joseph's talents," said Bonnivier in a press release. LENOX, Mass. -- Hundreds of amateur athletes Sunday won the 46th Josh Billings Runaground Triathlon where, as the motto goes, "To finish is to win."   The day's fastest finishers featured familiar names as the four-man team from Allen Heights Veterinary was the first across the finish line at Camp Mah-Kee-Nac, which took over this year from Tanglewood as the triathlon terminus.   As usual, teams headed out from downtown Great Barrington for a 27-mile bike ride to the boat launch at the Stockbridge Bowl, where pedalers gave way to paddlers for a 5-mile spring around the lake. LYNDONVILLE, Vt.- The MCLA volleyball team took a pair of non-conference wins Saturday afternoon over Bay Path and host Lyndon State to give head coach Amanda Beckwith 200 career wins.   A proud alum and former All-Conference player, Beckwith took the helm at MCLA in 2006. Vt Fish & Wildlife Warns About Rabbit Virus

MONTPELIER, Vt. — Rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus, a highly contagious virus capable of affecting rabbits and snowshoe hare, is appearing in states close to Vermont and Massachusetts and may show up here according to the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department.    There have been no cases in either state but Connecticut Department of Agriculture this week confirmed an outbreak in Hartford County that killed 14 domestic rabbits. The disease has also been found in New York State and New Jersey.    The department does not think this virus, designated RHDV2, is present in Vermont at this time, but it is thought to be spreading eastward from the western United States. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Friends of the North Adams Public Library is bringing back a tradition that many community members and book enthusiasts missed during its two-year absence because of the pandemic.    "I just think that the community loves this.
