Elms Fells MCLA Women

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The visiting Elms College women's basketball team outscored MCLA 9-2 over the final minute as the Blazers pulled away from the hosts for a hard fought 68-58 win in non conference action.   With the win, Elms improves to 2-0 on the early season.  MCLA evens its mark at 1-1.   Elms (2-0) placed three players in double figures. Kayla Jackson was outstanding as she collected a team best 18 points and a game-high 16 boards. Rahmia Johnston matched her 18 points as she drilled four three pointers on the afternoon. North Adams, Pittsfield Observes Veterans Day

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Residents in North Adams and Pittsfield gathered at memorials under cloudy skies on Friday to commemorate Veterans Day. 

Originally established to mark the end of the "war to end all wars" on Nov. 11, 1918, at 11 a.m., the day has come to symbolize the service of all the nation's veterans. 

There are about 19 million veterans, many of whom still serve as first-responders, teachers, and health-care workers, said Louis Brault, past commander of the state American Legion, Navy veteran, retired major of the Army National Guard and chairman of the American Legion Riders.   "Veterans are a unique group represented by men and women

SVMC to Close Connector Between Hospital and Medical Office Building

BENNINGTON, Vt. — Patients who use the connector between the hospital and Medical Office Building will be asked to take an alternate route starting Monday, Nov.14, 2022, when the connector will be closed for construction.

Patients are encouraged to use the Canopy Entrance for all entrances and exits of the hospital. This may require that patients repark between appointments in these two buildings. The closure is a necessary part of a significant renovation and expansion of the main entrance and Emergency Department. The connector is expected to remain closed until May 2023.

nbCC's 2022 Community Resource Guides Available in Spanish

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Physical copies of this free community resource guide are now available in Spanish.   This past July, the 2022 Edition of the Northern Berkshire Community Resource Guide (CRG) went to print and over 17,000 copies landed in mailboxes throughout north Berkshire County. Since then the Coalition has distributed an additional 775 guides to local residents and organizations.    The guide offers contact information of local resources covering everything from food access and meal sites, education services, financial and family support, immigrant services, mental health and counseling services, in addition to dozens of others. Hoosac Valley Elementary School in Need of Maintenance

CHESHIRE, Mass. — Superintendent Aaron Dean informed the Hoosac Valley Regional School Committee during a meeting Tuesday night that Hoosac Valley Elementary School in Adams is in need of maintenance.   The school's brickwork, gutters, sidewalks, and water diversion were assessed to determine what maintenance needed to be done.    "And a lot of the issues that we're dealing with in that building has to do with water, and diversion of water or something to do with drainage," Dean said.    The maintenance projects would deal with the school's gutter and water diversion system. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The City Council balked at putting the maximum tax burden on businesses at Wednesday's tax classification hearing.   Mayor Jennifer Macksey had recommended a 1.75 shift differential to the commercial side as a way to relieve pressure on homeowners.   The councilors, however, described the jump from last year's 1.68 to the max shift as "whiplash," especially after spending years trying to gradually shift toward residential to find some equity between the rates.   The council briefly considered setting it as 1.72 as a compromise
