Plant Connector Pop-up Opens in Pittsfield By Sabrina Damms, iBerkshires Staff

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — North County business owners Emilee Yawn and Bonnie Marks brought their community-loving plant shop, Plant Connector, to Central County. The pop-up shop, located at 64 North St., will be open until Dec. 31. The pop-up shop will replicate the much-loved North County store with an assortment of plants, home decor, and events. Yawn said the Plant Connector, which opened on Eagle Street in North Adams in 2020, is all about connecting people with plants and each other. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The City Council passed the long-awaited taxi to a second reading on Tuesday. The council made short work of a number of lingering items on the agenda through postponement and wrapped up in just under 45 minutes. The creation of a hospital overlay district was approved with little discussion. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Williams College is looking eastward for athletic facilities with the closure of the Towne Field House. The Planning Board on Monday approved a change-of-use application for a unit at 69 Union St. to operate a fitness facility. The special permit would allow the college to extend its use of the spaces in the former Shapiro Chevrolet dealership for its athletes. Alicia Schneider, property manager for CT Management Group, said the 8,000 square foot space had been used as a shop and storage by GEM Environmental. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The License Commission on Tuesday approved Hotel Downstreet for an all-alcohol license. Innkeeper Tyler Carroll, representing NA Hotel LLC, said the hotel would sell bottles and cans for consumption within the hotel. "What we're going be doing is retail down below, which will be sold as a whole bottle of wine or premixed cocktail, the idea would be to serve those type of items," he said. "And then the only time we would be pouring a glass would be in the banquet space, which would be controlled by a staff member." At least one lane will remain open to keep traffic flowing but there are concerns of backups with Mass Ave and Brown Street also being closed. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation, a nonprofit grantmaking and research organization, announced the launch of a new grant program, Supporting Health Coverage Enrollment Efforts, that will support organizations statewide that help eligible people secure and maintain MassHealth (Medicaid) or other insurance coverage. The Foundation awarded a total of $600,000 to 10 community-based organizations located across the state. City Woman Wins Hometown Holidays Gift Basket |
Jonathan Secor had some help in pulling the winning ticket.
Congrats to Janet O'Neill of North Adams who won the big Hometown Holidays gift basket on Thursday. O'Neill won some $1,300 worth of gift certificates and merchandise.
The drawing could be entered by spending $50 downtown during the Thursday night Hometown Holiday events. Jonathan Secor of MCLA Gallery 51 said 62 people had entered the contest (including the editor of iBerkshires &mdash amazing how much cat toys cost nowadays).
