FEMA Urges Public to Prepare Ahead of Hurricane Lee

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — FEMA encourages residents and visitors in Hurricane Lee's path to prepare now and follow the instructions of local officials.    Anyone in the forecast path of the storm should monitor local weather alerts for updates and evacuate immediately if told to do so.    "For the past several days, FEMA has been in close contact with our state partners as we monitor the path of Hurricane Lee," FEMA Region 1 Regional Administrator Lori Ehrlich said. MCLA Professor, Community Leader Steve Green Dies

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Community supporter and longtime educator Stephen Green has died.    Green reportedly died Tuesday from a medical condition.    The news was shared to the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts community on Thursday by college President Jamie Birge.    "Dr. Green was, and always will be, a legend who embodied MCLA's mission to promote excellence in learning and teaching, public service, and active and responsible citizenship," Birge wrote. The Friends of the North Adams Public Library Book Sale

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Friends of the North Adams Public Library Book Sale returns this weekend.   The book sale will be Friday Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.   It will be held at St. Elizabeth's Parish Hall located on 70 Marshall Street in North Adams.   There will be books, DVDs, CDs, puzzles, games, baked goods and more available.

City Woman Wins Hometown Holidays Gift Basket

Jonathan Secor had some help in pulling the winning ticket. Congrats to Janet O'Neill of North Adams who won the big Hometown Holidays gift basket on Thursday. O'Neill won some $1,300 worth of gift certificates and merchandise.

The drawing could be entered by spending $50 downtown during the Thursday night Hometown Holiday events. Jonathan Secor of MCLA Gallery 51 said 62 people had entered the contest (including the editor of iBerkshires &mdash amazing how much cat toys cost nowadays).
