MCLA Men Start 2020 with Home Win

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- MCLA's Chris Becker scored a game-high 20 points while teammates Noah Yearsley and Mike Demartinis added 19 and 17 points respectively to lead the Trailblazers to a 95-76 non conference win over the visiting Norwich Cadets on Saturday.
 
MCLA (7-4) never trailed as Becker asserted himself in the opening half.  He scored 16 of his 20 in the opening twenty minutes of action leading the Trailblazers to a 44-36 halftime edge.  MCLA shot 49% in the half.
 
The Trailblazers quickly extended out to a double digit advantage in the second half. The lead remained in double figures for most of the half with MCLA leading by as many as 25 late.
 
Becker was 9-for-12 from the floor and added 9 rebounds. Yearsley was outstanding as well going 8-13 shooting for his 19 point night. Demartinis canned three triples for his 17-point night. He added 4 rebounds and five assists. The Trailblazers ended the contest shooting 55%, including a 61% clip in the second half.
 
Norwich (2-10) was led by Caleb Casinas' 19 points. He was 6-for-12 from the floor
 
MCLA is off for a week until it challenges Bridgewater State next Saturday to open MASCAC play.
 
Women's Basketball
MILTON, Mass. -- Curry's Kathryn Dunn scored 15 points to lead the Colonels past MCLA, 56-43, Saturday afternoon in non conference play.
 
Curry moves to 2-9 while MCLA begins their second semester play and is now 2-8.
 
MCLA (2-8) led, 19-18, after one quarter of action and trailed, 29-28, at halftime. Curry (2-9) took over for good though in the third quarter as it outscored MCLA, 14-4, to open up a 43-32 edge with just 10 minutes left to play. 
 
MCLA was paced by Kylah Langston's team high 13-point effort. Olivia Pressley added 11 points while Drury graduate Brooke DiGennaro added seven off the bench. MCLA could not overcome a 35% shooting effort.
 
MCLA is off until next Saturday when it opens conference play at Bridgewater State.
