SANFORD, Maine -- The Sanford Mainers scored six runs in the third inning and held off a North Adams rally in the ninth to earn an 8-5 win on Thursday night.
Hoosac Valley graduate Matt Koperniak went 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBIs for North Adams, which scored three times in the eighth.
Taconic grad Drew DeMartino doubled and scored a run for the Mainers.
Thursday's loss, the SteepleCats' third straight, kept North Adams in second place in the New England Collegiate Baseball League's Northern Division -- just a half game ahead of the fourth-place Valley Blue Sox.
North Adams (24-18) finishes the regular season on Friday with a double-header against the Blue Sox in Holyoke. The top three teams in the division advance to the NECBL playoffs.
