NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Summer in North Adams means the beginning of a busy season of mostly free summertime entertainment for all ages.
The fun begins on Wednesday, June 5, with both the kickoff Common Folk Jam at Windsor Lake and the first home game of the North Adams SteepleCats.
The following city-run events are open to the public and free to attend. Smoking is prohibited on all city-owned property and city-sponsored events.
Concerts at Windsor Lake
A free concert series, presented by Greylock Federal Credit Union and the Office of Tourism and Community Events, takes place Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. starting June 5 at one of the most beautiful spots in the city and featuring great local talent. Kayaking, canoeing, swimming, and fishing are all allowed at the lake, located at the intersection of Bradley Street and Kemp Avenue.

North Adams Farmers Market
The North Adams Farmers Market will be held weekly on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting June 8 at 10 St. Anthony Drive. The market features local farmers, food producers, limited craft vendors and live music and accepts HIP & SNAP/EBT and double benefits while funding lasts through the Market Match Program.
Movies Under the Stars
A free monthly movie in the park presented by Adams Community Bank and the Office of Tourism and Community Events is held one Friday a month starting June 21 at dusk at Colegrove Park on North Church Street. The lineup is as follows:
June 21: "E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial"
July 26: "Trolls"
Aug. 23: "The Goonies"
Sept. 27: "The Wizard of Oz"
North Adams Fourth of July
Celebrate the nation’s independence at this local fireworks display, which takes place after the North Adams SteepleCats baseball game, presented by the Office of Tourism and Community Events. Sponsors to be announced. The fireworks are free and will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m.
Eagle Street Beach Party
Literally tons of sand are trucked in to create a beach more than three hours away from the nearest ocean on Saturday, July 13 (rain date July 20). For the first portion of the event, from 3:30 to 6 p.m., children and families play in the sand. For the second portion, from 7 to 10 p.m., there will be an adult fiesta, complete with cash bar on the beach, and live music.
National Night Out
The purpose of National Night Out, to be held Tuesday, Aug. 6, at locations to be announced, is to build camaraderie between the community and city/emergency personnel and promote partnerships between them to create a safer neighborhood.
Downtown Celebration
An outdoor festival/community expo featuring vendors, food, music, performances, and more will be held on Main and Eagle streets on Wednesday, Aug. 14 (rain date Aug. 15) from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Vendors can call 413-664-6180 or send an email for vendor applications.
Motorama Weekend
Motorama weekend kicks off with a party on Saturday, Aug. 24, from 2 to 6:30 p.m. at Noel Field with a cruise-in featuring food, fun, classic cars, and live music presented by the Motorama Committee, Greylock Federal Credit Union, and the Office of Tourism and Community Events. The Motorama Car Show will be held Sunday, Aug. 25 (rain date Aug. 31) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Main, Holden and Eagle streets will be closed to all but pedestrian traffic as downtown North Adams fills with cars, trucks, motorcycles, snowmobiles, tractors, food, swap meet and more. Anything with a motor is welcome
Other summer activities in North Adams include the North Adams SteepleCats, who open June 5 and run through the end of July. The complete schedule can be found online.
MCLA's DownStreet Art is held the last Thursday of the month from June to September starting at June 27 from 5 to 8 p.m. at various locations throughout downtown North Adams. This art festival features monthly gallery openings, street performances, and public art works.
Party in the Park will be held at Noel Field Athletic Complex on Thursdays from July 11 through Aug. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. This free weekly concert series sponsored by WNAW 1230AM and WUPE 100.1FM features bands, food trucks, and car cruise-ins.
