Bridgewater Sweeps MCLA Baseball in Season Finale

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University baseball team swept a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader with visiting MCLA on Senior Day at Alumni Park.
 
Bridgewater State wraps up regular season play with an overall record of 16-20 including an 11-10 mark in the MASCAC as the Bears finished in a three-way tie for fourth place and clinched a spot in next week's MASCAC Tournament. The Bears will await word on tournament seeding. MCLA ends the season with a record of 10-28 (4-17 MASCAC).
 
Game One
Senior Jarrett Archambault tossed five solid innings and classmate Greg Cavaioli notched his first collegiate save as the Bears down the Trailblazers, 3-1, in the opener.
 
Archambault (4-2) allowed just one run on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts as he notched his fourth win of the season. Cavaioli retired all six batters he faced.The Trailblazers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third as junior Ben Durland led off the frame with a walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on an RBI double by sophomore Jake Ferrara. MCLA would load the bases with one out, but Archambault minimized the damage with a strikeout and foul out.
 
The Bears answered with a pair of runs in the home half of the third. Senior Colin Josselyn doubled and advanced to third when junior Tyler Rondeau reached on an error. An RBI ground out by sophomore Michael Catanoso plated Josselyn. One out later, junior Lewis Robinson smacked an RBI double to the gap in right-center to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.
 
Bridgewater tacked on a run in the fifth to make it a 3-1 game. Freshman Liam Bell led off the inning with a double, advanced to third on senior Dominic Precopio's infield hit and scored on a two-out, RBI single by junior Jonathan Livolsi.
 
Livolsi went 2-for-3 with an RBI to pace the BSU offense in game one.
 
Senior Brendan Kelly gave up three runs on six hits in the setback on the mound for the Trailblazers. Kelly (1-7) walked one and fanned three.
 
Game Two
The Bears completed the sweep of the doubleheader and a sweep of the three-game series with a 10-1 victory in the nightcap. The BSU offense exploded for 15 hits and the Bears capitalized on four MCLA errors.
 
Sophomore Trever Dennett went the distance on the mound for the Bears to pick up his second win of the season. Dennett allowed just one run on eight hits with no walks and three strikeouts.
 
Robinson went 3-4 with a double, two runs and four RBI to pace the Bears' 15-hit attack. Bell and freshmanRuben Gonzalez also notched three hits apiece. Bell went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs and an RBI, while Gonzalez was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Senior Gavin Sparkman (Beverly, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI
 
Freshman Mike Urbanski took the loss for the MCLA. Urbanski (2-6) was tagged for three runs on four hits with one strikeout in 1 2/3 innings of relief. Sophomore lefthander Ryan Ruef (Lee High) Worked the first three innings and allowed one run on six hits.
 
Senior Antonio Archina went 2-for-3 at the plate driving in the Trailblazers lone run of the contest.
