Etel Adnan appears in many ways a singular figure in global contemporary art and poetry; Robyn Creswell, Assistant Professor of Comparative Literature at Yale University, and Kaelen Wilson-Goldie, critic and curator, join curator Elise Y. Chagas to unfold the context and detail of Adnan's twin pursuits of painting and poetry. Creswell will discuss the rich literary world in post-World War II Beirut, which foregrounded Adnan’s participation in the early 1970s; Wilson-Goldie will elaborate a network of influences and encounters that illuminate the relation Adnan has famously made between her painting and her Arab identity.
