MCLA Volleyball Drops a Pair on Road

WENHAM, Mass. -- The MCLA volleyball team Saturday dropped a pair of matches this afternoon as they fell to Neumann 3-0 before losing to host Gordon by the same score.
 
The Trailblazers drop to 1-2 with the pair of losses.
 
In the opener Saturday, the Trailblazers dropped the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-11 before putting up a fight in the third set.  In the third, MCLA led 24-21, but ultimately could not hold on as Neumann would go on to a 29-27 set win to clinch the match.
 
MCLA's Sara LaFreniere and Alyssa Keegan each collected a team best six kills in the opener.  Celine Manigbas notched 10 digs while Tessa Sestito assisted on 17 kills to lead the team.  MCLA was hampered by 24 errors in the contest.
 
Neumann was paced by Melanie Malseed who collected a match best 21 kills in the win.  Alex Koppany and Rachel Cray notched 23 and 18 assists respectively in the win. Neumann improved to 3-0 with the win.
 
In the nightcap against the Fighting Scots, Gordon cruised past MCLA 25-22, 25-12, and 25-16 to earn the win and improve to 3-1 overall.
 
MCLA was led by Keegan's team best seven kills on 21 attacks. LaFreniere added five kills in defeat. McKenna Jordan earned nine digs while Sestito set up the offense with 13 assists on the afternoon.
 
Gordon was led by Amanda Snyder's 11 kills while Mackenzie Hinds added 10 more in the win. Ashlyn Gergins notched 33 assists for Gordon and Jenny Curtiss collected 10 digs in the win.
 
The Trailblazers will head to Mount Holyoke on Tuesday. MCLA will open up at home on Thursday when they host Anna Maria at 6 p.m. in the Amsler Campus Center Gym.
