NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —It was déjà vu for the SteepleCats Tuesday night, as early opposing team offense and pitching put the game just out of reach.

Fans flocked to Joe Wolfe Field last night for the home opener of the SteepleCats season and were greeted by a great baseball environment to enjoy a game, but also nine Nighthawks runs through the first four innings, leading to a 10-4 win for Upper Valley.

The home team was hindered by errors on the field and eleven runners left on base as it was an uphill battle ever since Upper Valley got two runs across the plate in the first. Three Nighthawks were able to gather three hits each of the team’s thirteen, while the SteepleCats were held under ten for the second game in a row.

Rhode Island’s Jackson Coutts repeated his performance from Tuesday night, going 2-for-4 at the plate in his first two NECBL games. Coutts’ college teammate and former Pittsfield Sun Greg Cavaliere was also able to gather two hits as the outfielder now has three on the season.

Similar to the season opener, four SteepleCats pitchers took the mound. Christopher Cepeda started the game for North Adams, with AJ Landis, Cam Kovachik, and Jeff Hayner making appearances later in the game.

Thursday was Cam Kovachik’s first appearance on the hill since Tommy John surgery sidelined the Duke University junior this season.

“It felt good getting back out there. My command wasn’t great, (I) didn’t have my best velocity,” said Kovachik. “But at the same time, I was able to go in there, throw a few strikes, get a couple outs, keep a zero on the board. So overall (it) felt good and it was fun to get back out there.”

The SteepleCats are on the road the next two nights as they take on the Newport Gulls and then the Valley Blue Sox as North Adams still searches for their first win. The next home game will be Sunday, June 8th against the same Newport Gulls where Cam Kovachik is expected to start.
