NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Brian Cole won Saturday's Humane Race 5-kilometer race in a time of 17 minutes, 37.5 seconds.

 

Cole, 28, ran mile pace of 5:43 to cross the finish line nearly two minutes ahead of the rest of the field in the event, which benefits Berkshire Humane Society.

 

April Varellas, 35, defended her women's title and finished second overall in 19:23.82.

 

This was the first year the race moved from Williamstown to North Adams.

 

More than 100 competitors finished the race, ranging in age from 16 to 69.
