MCLA Baseball Splits at Salem State

SALEM, Mass. -- The MCLA baseball team split a double-header at Salem State on Saturday afternoon, taking the first game 5-2 before dropping the nightcap, 11-0.
 
In the first game, Drury graduate Logan Rumbolt went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Wahconah grad Tyler Cowdrey drove in a pair of runs.
 
Taconic’s Liam Nolan went the distance to earn the win, striking out 10, walking one and scattering eight hits over eight innings.
 
In Game 2, Rumbolt went 2-for-3 and Cowdrey had a hit, but the Trailblazers managed just five hits combined.
 
Bobby New (Pittsfield), Brandon Condon (Mount Greylock) and Schuyler Robinson (Drury) each pitched in the loss.
 
MCLA (13-14-1, 7-6-1 MASCAC) is home for two against non-league foe Lasell on Sunday starting at 1:30.
 
Men’s Tennis
RUTLAND, Vt. – In the first semifinal of the North Atlantic Conference East Division Men's Tennis Tournament, Thomas College defeated MCLA, 7-0, at the Mac-Sam Tennis Center.
 
With the victory, Thomas improves to 12-4 and advanced to the championship match against Colby-Sawyer College Saturday afternoon. MCLA fell to 5-6.
 
Thomas swept the doubles sets, starting with number one doubles team Ryan Chasse and Zachary Disch defeating MCLA's Aaron Goldsmith and Jared Freeman, 8-5. Ross Munn and Jared Waterhouse took number two doubles from Matthew Bluteau and Charles Najimy, 8-1, and Kaleb Payson and Christo Naranja earned an 8-4 victory over Mohamed Mahrous and Nick Castle at number three doubles.
 
In singles, Disch at number three singles and Waterhouse at number four singles won their matches in straight sets without losing a game (6-0, 6-0). Munn defeated Freeman at number two singles (6-0, 6-2), and Chasse won the number one singles match over Goldsmith (6-3, 6-2).
 
The match was the final one for MCLA seniors Goldsmith and Jared Freeman.
 
Women’s Lacrosse
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Framingham State defeated MCLA, 12-1, on Senior Day at Shewcraft Field on Saturday.
 
Kim Granito had the lone goal for MCLA (1-9, 0-7). Zoe Elwell stopped 13 shots in MCLA’s goal.
