Update April 27: EWP LLC canceled its scheduled community meeting on Friday after determining that 420 Curran Highway was not suitable for its, largely because of its proximity to south end of Noel Field Athletic Complex. The company's principals say they are looking at other options for use as a cultivation facility.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A second marijuana establishment is seeking to put down roots in the city.

EWP LLC is looking to establish a cultivation location at 420 Curran Highway. The company is holding a community meeting on Friday, April 27, at noon in the Berkshire Room at the Holiday Inn on Main Street.

Community meetings are required by state law for establishments seeking to set up dispensaries, cultivation sites, processing or laboratory testing. The city recently passed a cannabis ordinance setting out where such establishments could be located in the city.

The location, 420 Curran Highway, was originally K-K Home Mart and later the home of the Registry of Motor Vehicles and the Brien Center's adult day program. The building has been largely empty of late with the exception of a vape store that moved in last year.

The state began accepting applications for retail establishments of marijuana on April 1 and is expected to be approving licenses beginning in July. Another company, Valley Green Grow, is eyeing a dispensary and cultivation site in the city's south end.

The community meeting is open to the public and representatives of EWP LLC will be available to present their plans and answer questions.
