For decades there was an outcry for the need of a teen center. Now we have ROOTS which recently celebrated its first anniversary. Its a small space, but still managed to be a place where over 100 individual teenagers and young adults made it their place the first year. The young members have a dream for a larger space, more programs, and continued growth. For now ROOTS just needs to sustain what it offers, and that can't be done without help from the community. Grants and other funding have been very helpful, but most don't pay for staffing, rent, or regular expenses which are the larger budget items. Contributions can be made anytime, and we have events lined up making donating more enjoyable!

ROOTS is a place for youth to safely explore and express their thoughts, ideas, hopes, and struggles. ROOTS encourages young people to build healthy, strong, and nurturing relationships with each other, mentors, volunteers, and the larger community. Over one hundred teenagers and young adults utilized the space during its first year. Necessary funds are needed to keep the space open and programs to continue. More info atwww.rootsteencenter.com/

Please email with any questions, contributions, or other ideas for the INDULGE event to keithbona@gmail.com. You can donate anytime online at http://rootsteencenter.com/donate.
April 14th
International Slow Art Day

Slow Art Day is a global event with a simple mission: help more people discover for themselves the joy of looking at and loving art.

How does it work?

One day each year – April 14 in 2018 – people all over the world visit local museums and galleries to look at art slowly. Participants look at five works of art for 10 minutes each and then meet together over lunch to talk about their experience. That’s it. Simple by design, the goal is to focus on the art and the art of seeing.

Why slow? When people look slowly at a piece of art they make discoveries. The most important discovery they make is that they can see and experience art without an expert (or expertise). And that’s an exciting discovery. It unlocks passion and creativity and helps to create more art lovers.

SETH BROWN
Seth Brown is a freelance writer, poet, and comedian, who has performed around the Berkshires and beyond. He writes his award-winning humor column "The Pun Also Rises" for the Berkshire Eagle, is the author of five books, and enjoys half-price sushi at local restaurants.

RICK CONETY
Rick Conety performs clean stand-up comedy at venues all around New England and western New York. A “baby boomer,” Rick writes comedy that comes from that perspective; from dealing with elderly parents to coping with the constantly-changing modern technology. His comedy appeals to discerning adults who appreciate clever comedy without the obscenities.

In addition to college, corporate, and comedy club audiences, he also likes to bring his off-beat humor to unique venues such as churches and campgrounds, even appearing in downtown storefront windows at some of Saratoga’s “First Night” New Year’s Eve celebrations.

He especially enjoys donating his time and talent to help raise much-needed funds for non-profit organizations. He has performed for many benefits, including fundraisers for Children’s Mental Health Fund, Center for Autism, Youth and Family Services, Rape Crisis, Project Against Violent Encounters, and the American Cancer Society.

NELL SHANAHAN
Nell Shanahan is a British expat now living in Albany. She believes that being an artist can be challenging and powerful but sometimes fart jokes are the solution. She strongly believes all dogs are good dogs. Nell has performed at the Albany Funnybone, the Saratoga Comedyworks and Proctors Theatre, and is happiest in life making the loudest noise to the most people.

Join us after school on March 28, pick up a self-guide to look at artwork in our galleries that show acts of human kindness, and make a work of art that matters—a decoupage found-word poetry plaque, an inspiring yard sign, or a message in a bottle in celebration of Youth Art Month. Give your work of art to someone special to brighten his or her day, or leave it in an unexpected place in the community as a surprise act of good will.
