MCLA Men Use Defense to Earn Road Win

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- The MCLA men's basketball team held Framingham State to 29 percent shooting as they clamped down on the Rams and rolled to a 58-40 win on Thursday night.
 
MCLA (6-11, 3-3 MASCAC) was led by Keiland Cross and Adam Conquest who each ended with 10 points. Quran Davis added 9 points in the win.  
 
Framingham State (5-14, 1-5) was led by Manny Payton's game high 13 point night while Cameren McCloud Thomas had 12.
 
MCLA led 18-16 after Payton connected on a triple for the Rams with 5:18 left in the first half. The Trailblazers outscored the Rams 10-2 to close the half with a 28-18 lead.
 
MCLA never trailed in the second half and coasted home. The hosts got within eight early at 32-24, but MCLA responded with a 10-2 spurt fueled by Cross and Conquest to extend out to a commanding 42-26 edge. The Rams scored the next seven points to pull within nine at 42-33 with 7:15 left to play, but Mike Demartinis nailed a mid range jumper to stem the run and push the lead back to double figures.
 
The Trailblazers bench outscored the Rams 25-5.
 
MCLA is back in action on Saturday when they head to Westfield State.
 
Women's Basketball
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- The Framingham State women's basketball team outscored MCLA 18-8 in overtime and Raegan Mulherin scored a game high 26 points to lead the Rams past visiting MCLA 87-77 in MASCAC action.
 
Framingham State improves to 11-7 overall and sits at 5-1 in the league.  The Trailblazers drop to 6-12 overall and are 2-4 in the conference.
 
MCLA (6-12, 2-4) led 19-15 after one quarter, however the Rams (11-7, 5-1) outscored the visitors, 18-7, in the second to take a 33-26 halftime lead. The Trailblazers sliced the deficit to just 48-44 heading to the home fourth and set up a dramatic finish.
 
With 7:47 left to play, Mulherin's triple put the host Rams in front 56-46. MCLA wenton a 12-4 spurt to get within two at 60-58 after Erika Ryan's bucket with 4:13 to go, but Abbey Battaini answered with a 3-pointer to put Framingham up, 63-58.
 
MCLA kept the surge going and finally pulled in front 64-63 when Ryan connected once again with 2:50 remaining. The Rams scored four straight, capped off by Mary Kate O'Day's free throws making it 67-64 with 1:21 left. MCLA's Courtney Pingelsk and FSU's Mulherin traded baskets, but Trailblazer Sam Gawron drilled a deep 3 with 39 seconds left to tie at 69-69. Both teams had a chance in the final seconds of regulation but could not convert.
 
The OT session was all Rams.
 
MCLA placed five players in double figures led by Drury grad Emily Moulton's 14 point and 15 rebound performance. She added 4 assists. Pingelski led the team with 15 points and added 9 boards. L'Rae Brundige notched 12 points while Gawron and Hoosac Valley's Mckenzie Robinson each ended with 11 points.
 
MCLA is back in action on Saturday when it challenges Westfield State at 1 p.m.
