NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- After a sluggish start, the MCLA volleyball team pulled away from visiting Cobleskill, defeating the Fighting Tigers, 3-1, Tuesday in the Amsler Campus Center Gym.
The Fighting Tigers (8-15) took it to the Trailblazers in the opening set cruising to a 25-19 victory. The second set was tight throughout until MCLA (9-17) pulled away late to even things up with a 25-18 set win knotting it at 1-1. From there, MCLA took over winning the crucial third set 25-12 and rolling 25-7 in the clinching fourth.
Sara LaFreniere was outstanding for MCLA collecting a match best 12 kills on 28 attacks. She added 8 digs and two aces. Brooke Queripel added 10 kills on 31 attacks for MCLA. She added six digs.
Setting up the offense all night were Natasha Stewart and Taylor Wiese. They had 26 and 16 assists respectively in a winning effort. Stewart notched a double double with 19 digs for MCLA. Wiese added eight as well. Mele Enomoto collected 19 digs and three aces to spear head the defense.
The Trailblazers close out the regular season at home on Saturday with a rare doubleheader with Mass Maritime beginning at 1 p.m.
