Mangiardi Notches Assist as MCLA Women's Soccer Earns Comeback Win

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The MCLA women's soccer team scored twice in the final 14 minutes and Kayla Baker drilled the game winner as the Trailblazers rallied past the visiting Framingham State Rams 2-1 Saturday afternoon in MASCAC play.
 
With the win, the Trailblazers' second straight, they improve to 2-8 overall and is now 1-3 in the league. The Rams drop to 2-8-1 overall and are 0-4 in the conference.
 
The Rams outshot MCLA 32-6, however the Trailblazers made the most of their opportunities. FSU actually got on the board first in the 75th minute when a cross was deflected into the Trailblazer net for an own goal.  
 
MCLA answered just one minute later.  Pittsfield's Lauren Mangiardi (Taconic) connected with Kaylyn Holliday, who  pounded it home to tie the game at 1-1 with just over thirteen minutes left to play.
 
In the 82nd minute, Baker converted an unassisted goal, her first of the season, to give the hosts a 2-1 edge over the Rams. Framingham couldn't get the equalizer over the final eight minutes securing the win for the Trailblazers.
 
Women's Cross Country
WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The MCLA women's harriers ran this Saturday in the James Early Invitational hosted by Westfield State University. The Trailblazers finished in 31st place in the meet.
 
Trinity College took home the team honors while Abby Shafer of New England College won the individual meet.
 
The Trailblazers were paced by Julie Gambill. The freshman covered the 5k course in 21 minutes, 42 seconds.
 
Kaitlin Wright was the next finisher across in a time of 25:05.
 
Other Trailblazers competing were Hailey Bowers, Jordan Daegatano, Hunter Schrade, and Breanna Castor.
 
Men's Cross Country
WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The MCLA men's cross country team finished 27th at the James Early Invitational.
 
Jeremiah Jones paced the Trailblazers with a 61st place finish.
 
Trinity College took home the team honors edging Williams College for first place. Sam Brunette of Plymouth State took home top individual honors.
 
Jeremiah Jones was the top Trailblazer across the line as he finished in 61st place. He ran the 8k in 28:31.  
 
Chris Gamble was the next finisher across the line for MCLA as he completed the meet in 29:47.
 
Others competing for MCLA were Corey Powers, Avery Woodbury, and Owen Fitzgerald.
 
Men's Soccer
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- The Framingham State men's soccer team received two goals from MASCAC leading scorer Isaac De Souza en route to defeating visiting MCLA by a score of 3-0.
 
With the win the Rams improve to 6-7 and 3-1 in the MASCAC. The Trailblazers are now 3-9 and 1-3 in league play.
 
Women's Tennis
NEW LONDON, N.H. -- Colby-Sawyer, the tournament's top seed, earned a 9-0 win over fourth seed MCLA in the NAC semifinals on Saturday.
 
The Chargers improved to 11-0 on the season and reached the NAC finals for the seventh straight season. The Trailblazers fell to 4-6.
 
The Chargers swept doubles action with their top duo of senior Ashley Woodside and freshman Yashu Yang defeating senior Mariza Sfakianaki (Williamstown, Mass.) and junior Sam Gawron, 8-2.
