NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The MCLA women's soccer team outshot visiting Cobleskill 39-1 and Pittsfield High graduate Aleah Sangiovanni and Caitlyn Maloney netted goals as the Trailblazers earned their first win of 2017 with a resounding 2-0 win over the Tigers. 

 

The Trailblazers are now 1-8 on the season while Cobleskill is still in search of their first win at 0-9.

 

MCLA (1-8) controlled play throughout as they held Cobleskill (0-9) without a shot in the opening half.  In the 23rd minute, the Trailblazer offense finally broke through. Brittany Whitford sent a through ball up the middle that found Sangiovanni behind the defense. She slipped a shot into the lower right corner for her second of the year.

 

Adams’ Megan Richardson (Hoosac Valley) earned the win and combined with Gaby Cilibrisi on the shutout. Neither had to make a save for MCLA.

 

The Trailblazers are back in action on Saturday when they return to MASCAC play hosting Framingham State.

 

Volleyball

TROY, N.Y. --  The Russell Sage volleyball team upended the MCLA Trailblazers, 3-0, in non-conference action.

 

With the win, the Gators improve to 6-16 overall while MCLA falls to 5-13.

 

The Gators (6-16) took the first two sets, 25-17, 25-19, before closing out the match in convincing fashion with a 25-13 third-set win.

 

MCLA (5-13) struggled hitting all night posting just 22 kills while also having 21 attack errors.  The Trailblazers were paced on offense by Brooke Queripel, who ended with a team best 7 kills on 23 attacks. Natasha Stewart ended with 11 assists.

 

The defense was led by Mele Enomoto's team high 13 digs while Michelle Laga added 10 more.

 

MCLA is off until Tuesday when it travels to Westfield State to continue MASCAC play.
