PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Salem State University golf team swept both the team and individual honors this afternoon in the 2017 MASCAC Championship hosted by MCLA and Berkshire Hills Country Club.

The Vikings turned in a team score of 305 to outdistance Westfield State by seven shots. Viking senior Chad Alibozek of Adams took home medalist honors with a one over par score of 73.

Alibozek led all five Vikings, who all shot 79 or better. The long hitting senior went out in two over par 37 before heating up on the back nine. Alibozek parred the first two holes on the inward nine before birdieing the par 4, 12th hole. He bogeyed the 13th hole, but then got that shot back with a birdie on the difficult par 5, 15th hole. He made a great par save on 16 before having routine pars on the last two holes to shoot his 73.

Alibozek held off Worcester State's Mike Jezierski, who shot a 75. The defending champion turned in 36, but couldn't get enough momentum going to catch Alibozek. Jezierski had a birdie on the 15th hole as well, however it was sandwiched around a pair of bogeys.

Salem State's Nick Stone finished solo third while teammate Ryan Swart and Westfield's Garrett Desmond each shot 77. Owl teammates Mike Sarkis and Ryan Koczela each posted 78, while Salem's Reed Bourgeois and Eric Powers came in with 79's.

MCLA finished third while Worcester State was fourth. The Trailblazers were led by Reese Dwyer's 81. Jezierski paced the Lancers while Eddie Peladeau shot 81.

Men’s Soccer
DANBURY, Conn. -- The MCLA men's soccer team surrendered a pair of second half goals just one minute apart as host Western Connecticut rallied past MCLA 2-1 Tuesday in non-conference action.

Oscar Castro got MCLA (3-8) going in the first half as he converted a penalty kick to give the Trailblazers a 1-0 advantage. It's the second straight game that Castro has converted a PK.  The goal was his team leading third of the season.

The Colonials (6-4) controlled the game as they outshot MCLA 24-5, but for a while they couldn't get one past MCLA keeper Kamron Anderson.

Anderson stopped three shots in the opening half and was keeping the visitors in front midway through the second half before the Colonials exploded. In the 75th minute, Mikey Sciortino converted a feed from Robert Della Penna to tie the game. Just one minute later, Sciortino once again made something happen. This time, he found Della Penna, who scored the game-winner slipping it past Anderson for a 2-1 lead with just 14 minutes left to play.

Anderson notched eight saves for MCLA while Daniel Szabo stopped one shot for West Conn to earn the win.

MCLA is back in action on Saturday when it continues MASCAC play against Framingham State on the road.
