MCLA Men's Soccer Opens with OT win

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Matt Duffy scored with 1:56 left in the first overtime Friday to led the MCLA Trailblazers to a  1-0 win over the visiting Becker College Hawks at Shewcraft Field.
 
he match was the season opener for both team.
 
Duffy converted a pass from Romeo Grey for the golden goal to end the scoreless drought and send the home crowd happy. MCLA had a great chance to win it in regulation, but Grey's shot hit the post and the game went into overtime.
 
MCLA held a slim 12-11 shot advantage over the Hawks and a 5-4 mark in corners, however neither team could get the ball into the back of the net.
 
MCLA keeper Kamron Anderson earned the shutout victory collecting three saves for the Trailblazers to snag the win.
 
Becker's Arnold Schroder was almost as effective stopping five shots for the Hawks.
 
MCLA will travel to Western New England on Sunday afternoon while Becker will be at Nichols on Labor Day.
 
 
VOLLEYBALL
POMONA, Calif. -- The MCLA volleyball team dropped a pair of contests to open the 2017 season as they fell in straight sets to both Redlands and Wisconsin Eau Claire in the Pacific Classic.
 
The Trailblazers dropped the opener to Redlands before dropping the nightcap to Wisconsin Eau Claire 3-0.
 
MEN'S GOLF
COBLESKILL, N.Y.- The MCLA golf program began the Peter Egazarian era Friday afternoon with a match hosted by Cobleskill.
 
The Trailblazers finished fourth in a six-team competition won by the host Tigers.
 
MCLA shot a team score of 348 while Cobleskill won the event at 323.
 
Stamford, Vt.'s, Matt Lawrence started strong with a 79, which was good enough for third place overall. Lawrence's round was highlighted by an eagle on the 8th hole. The senior holed out from the fairway from 155 yards to card the two.
 
Reese Dwyer shot his best round in a Trailblazer uniform as he posted an 81, good for a fourth place finish.  
 
Dylan Mulvihill of Cobleskill was medalist after shooting a 76.
 
Also competing for the Trailblazers were Gabriel Evans and Pittsfield's Josh Fortier and Liam Nolan.
 
MCLA is off until Sept. 14, when it hosts the Trailblazer Invitational at Berkshire Hills Country Club in Pittsfield.
