TRUST: Is a weekend exploration of site-specific performance, dialogue, empathy, and community in downtown North Adams, MA.
Presented as part of Downstreet Art 2017, TRUST is an invitation for both performer and audience to, as Vulnerability Researcher Brene Brown puts it, “lean into the discomfort of vulnerability” and embrace “experiences that are wrought with uncertainty: love, belonging, trust, joy and creativity.”
Our guides for the weekend are three performers Ana Mendez (Miami, FL), T L Ford (Portland, OR) and Benjamin Lundberg/Sanchez-Torres (Providence, RI) – each bringing their own understanding of vulnerability to their work. They will perform in locations across downtown North Adams, from parks and alleys to buses and park benches – inviting the audience to be present, to lean into any discomfort and to engage in open and caring dialogue around the experience. |

Music starts early in the museum courtyards, moves to our spacious (and grassy!) urban concert meadow, and then continues until past your bedtime with wild and woolly late-night barn dances in the Hunter Center on Friday and Saturday nights. The lineup is jam-packed with guitar gods and banjo gurus, traditionalists and trailblazers — artists you already know and love interspersed with FreshGrass discoveries. Taken together, it’s an expansive group of performers who both draw on the past and look to the future. We like to think of it as “great music uprooted.”

While many sequels do not live up to their predecessors, the inspiring and riveting An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth To Power is a rare exception. A decade ago, former Vice President Al Gore in An Inconvenient Truth sounded the alarm, broke through some of the denial and helped shift the paradigm regarding global warming. The mission is not yet accomplished, and the message is no less urgent.
Filmmakers Bonni Cohen and Jon Shenk follow Gore as he continues his efforts to inform the human inhabitants of this planet about the catastrophic consequences of climate change, traveling around the world training an army of climate champions and influencing international climate policy. Cameras follow him behind the scenes—in moments both private and public, funny and poignant—as he pursues the inspirational idea that while the stakes have never been higher, the perils of climate change can be overcome with human ingenuity and passion.
