STAMFORD, Vt. -- Matt Lawrence this month broke the course record at Stamford Valley Golf Course with a 9-under-par round of 27 on the nine-hole course.
Playing from the white tees, the Drury High School graduate lowered by two strokes the record of 29 set by Sean Cota in 2015.
The record stood at 31 for more than three decades, a mark set by Bob Sherman, who carded that score from the blue tees in 1982.
Two weeks after breaking the course record for a full nine holes on Aug. 7, Lawrence recorded a hole-in-one on the 230-yard, par 3 seventh hole. His shot was witnessed by Larry Chenail and Reggie Roy.
It was the second ace in three days at the course.
On Saturday, Aug. 19, Mike Norcross eagled the 250-yard, par 4 ninth hole. His accomplishment was witnessed by Bob Boulger, Matt Boulger, Mike Parrino and Tom Bator.
