NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Dick Lamb and Holly Taylor have been named honorees for the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts’ Department of Athletics' 21st annual Golf Classic at the Berkshire Hills Country Club in Pittsfield.

The event will take place on Monday, Aug. 7, which represents a change from previous tournaments, previously held in September. Registration is underway online. Teams of four will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. In the event of rain, the Golf Classic will be held on Monday, Sept. 18.

"Dick and Holly are longtime champions of MCLA. The college appreciates Dick's service as the chair of the MCLA Board of Trustees, along with Holly's unwavering support of MCLA," MCLA President James F. Birge said. "They deserve this recognition as an expression of our gratitude.

"We are proud to have them as our 2017 Golf Classic Honorees; their golf skills will heighten the competition at the tournament," Birge said. "We are delighted to honor them this year, and look forward to another successful tournament to benefit our student athletes."

This year's Golf Classic will be sponsored by MountainOne Bank, which will be the All-Star Sponsor. In addition, for the fourth consecutive year, Petri Contracting of Clarksburg will sponsor the tournament, this year as the President's Club Title Sponsor. All proceeds will benefit MCLA's student athletes.

The Lamb/Taylors are longtime advocates of the College and have positively impacted the Berkshire County community. Lamb is a Foundation corporator, former Foundation Board director and former MCLA trustee. Taylor recently retired as the president of True North Insurance (now Mountain One Insurance) and, like Lamb, has been a constant supporter of MCLA.

The couple will be formally recognized that evening at the annual Golf Classic dinner.

The 18-hole scramble event is the department's primary fundraiser.  Over the last 20 years, the Golf Classic has brought together community businesses, alumni, and friends from throughout Berkshire County in support of MCLA's student athletes.

The Classic helps MCLA's student athletes by offsetting travel costs, capital equipment purchases within the department, and creating scheduling opportunities for the athletes.  This tournament not only is a showcase event for MCLA Athletics; it also serves as a community event for the College.

The cost to play in the event is $150, which includes golf, cart, dinner, a gift and prizes. For further questions, contact Assistant Athletics Director Jeff Puleri at 413-662-5403.
