Rebbecca Ann Cohen has announced a run for North Adams City Council.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Rebbecca Ann Cohen, a longtime city resident, says she will be running for seat on the City Council this fall, and is applying for the current seat left vacant by Nancy Bullet.

Bullet resigned effective July 1 and the City Council has solicited letters of interest to fill the vacancy until the next election.

Cohen, the director of human resources and compliance for her family's businesses, Tunnel City Transport and Cariddi Auto, has been an active North Adams resident since returning to the city in 2012 following her pursuit of a master's degree.

Since then, Cohen has formed personal and professional relationships in the Berkshires and graduated last year from 1Berkshire's Berkshire Leadership Program.

While always passionate by the city she calls home, Cohen said she realized that getting politically involved in her community was the best way for her to give back and to help the city continue to move forward.

"North Adams is embarking on a very promising turn for the future and I am enthusiastic to get working on rendering our city a better place to raise our children. All residents want North Adams to be sustainable and viable," she said in a statement announcing her candidacy. "North Adams has come so far in the past decade and there is still so much more that we can do to truly improve our status and attract people to be active in our community.

"I'm ready to listen to the people of North Adams. I'm ready to work with them and for them. The direction that North Adams is taking makes me excited about joining public office and I aspire to be part of the revitalization of our city. North Adams' historical beauty and those that see the uniqueness in this community for residents and tourists alike gives me the energy I need to bring new and fresh ideas to the council. I sincerely look forward to continuing to be involved in North Adams and it's bright future."
