NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The North Adams SteepleCats were stymied by the pitching of the Winnipesaukee Muskrats on Wednesday night, losing 9-0 to the division rivals at Joe Wolfe Field.

The SteepleCats managed just four singles in the losing effort- one each from JJ Shimko (South Carolina Upstate), Eddie Haus (St. Mary's), Bryce Peterson (UCF) and Tyler Walters (Slippery Rock).

Winnipesaukee took the lead initially in the top of the second inning, thanks to a three-run home run from JD Andreessen (Monmouth). Tyler Bielamowicz (Houston) and Greg Ludwig reached on a single and a walk before the Muskrat catcher cleared the left field fence.

Sean Mazzio (Wagner) scored the fourth Muskrat run in the top of third inning. After a leadoff single, a wild pitch, and a groundout, Mazzio crossed the plate on another groundout, this one from Austin Siener (UT-Rio Grande Valley). Mazzio went 4-for-5 in the winning effort for the Muskrats.

The Winnipesaukee lead was extended to 5-0 in the top of the sixth, when a bases loaded sacrifice fly from Andreessen drove in Koby Claborn (Abilene Christian).

Four runs in the top of the ninth inning further put the game out of reach for Winnipesaukee. The frame included two singles, two walks, a hit by pitch, and an error, and featured the fifth RBI from Andreessen.

Shimko and Haus each reached base twice for the 'Cats, on a single and a walk. The best pitcher out of the bullpen was Robby Buffis (Ithaca), who allowed just one run in three innings, and worked out of a bases loaded no out jam with no damage done.

After three consecutive games at Joe Wolfe Field, the 'Cats take to the road on Thursday night. The Keene Swamp Bats will welcome North Adams to Alumni Field for the second meeting between the two teams. The 'Cats won the series opener, 5-3, on the second night of the season. 2016 NECBL All-Star Braxton Wilks starts for the SteepleCats.
