The License Board looks over initial plans to expand Whitney's in the Oasis Plaza.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Whitney's Beverage Shop in the Oasis Plaza was approved on Tuesday by the License Board for an alter of premise to location as it moves to expand its space.

Shree Hari Ji Corp., based in Cheshire, Mass., has asked to add about 1,000 square feet of space previously occupied by Wilkinson Appraisal Associates Inc., which moved out several months ago.

Representatives for Shree Hari Ji, with principal Mihirkumar Sunilbhai (Michael) Patel, said the space to the left of the current liquor store will be initially used for storage. The front door will be locked to prevent customers from walking into the storage area. The board also asked that signage be placed on the door directing patrons to the store's entrance.

Future plans are to expand the retail section into that area. The company will return to the board once it's ready to transform that space. Patel, who also owns Cheshire Liquor Center, purchased the business from James Whitney last year.

In other business:

The board approved three one-day licenses for Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts: one for a reception at Gallery 51 on Oct. 15, for a 1Berkshire Salute to Business at the Church Street Center on Oct. 26, and an American Physical Society recognition dinner in the Amsler Campus Center on Oct. 28.

An all-alcoholic license application for Ramunto's Pizza & Pub at 67 Main St. was postponed to Oct. 12 because the paperwork was not ready.
