OTTAWA, Ontario -- Kellen Hathaway singled to drive home Eric Leitch in the top of the seventh to break a 6-6 tie and propel the Cages Baseball Club under-22 team to an 7-6  win over the Capital City Reds on Saturday.

 

The win helped the Cages avoid a three-game sweep by Capital City after the hosts picked up an 8-0 win in the first half of Saturday’s double-header.

 

In the nightcap, the Cages jumped out to a 6-1 lead after four innings only to see the Reds come back and tie it in the bottom of the sixth.

 

Leitch led the Cages’ offense going 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Hathaway also doubled in a 2-for-4 performance. Frank Rickus went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.

 

Denis Cooney picked up the win with 1-⅓ innings of scoreless relief.

 

The Cages Baseball Club (7-13-2) is home on Tuesday against the New England Ruffnecks at Mount Greylock Regional School.
