NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- It took just a little more than two hours Friday for the Upper Valley Nighthawks to hand the North Adams SteepleCats a 2-1 loss at Joe Wolfe Field.

The North Adams SteepleCats (18-18) and the Upper Valley Nighthawks (14-21) played perhaps one of the shortest games of the season Friday night.  It was a game that barely lasted over two hours in a 2-1 loss for the SteepleCats at Joe Wolfe Field.

The SteepleCats (18-18) got all they could have asked for out of their starter Ryan Tapp. He recorded five strikeouts through the first six innings and allowed two runs off of four hits. He was perfect for the first four and two thirds innings before walking Al Molina with two outs in the fifth.  He then gave up his first hit of the game to Walker Grisanti who singled.

Bill Maier was solid in his start for the Nighthawks (14-21). He went seven innings and allowed one run off of five hits.

C.J. Price led off the bottom of the third for the SteepleCats with a double for the first hit of the game for either team. Kyle Brennan followed with an infield single, advancing Price to third.  Daniel Holst then singled in Price to give the ‘Cats a 1-0 lead.

The Nighthawks were able to figure Tapp out to begin the sixth. Grayson Bird led off the inning with a single. With two outs and Bird on second, Joseph Denison doubled him in to tie the game.  Trent Leimkuehler followed with a double to score Denison giving the Nighthawks the lead.

Josh Simpson pitched a pair of scoreless innings in relief and Jared Habershaw followed, pitching a scoreless ninth to keep the SteepleCats in the game. Nick Jones pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth to record the six out save for the Nighthawks.

The SteepleCats will travel to take on the Keene Swamp Bats (15-19) Saturday evening at Alumni Field. The SteepleCats will return to Joe Wolfe Field for a rematch with the Swamp Bats on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
