NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- After dropping the first two head to head meetings in 2016, the North Adams SteepleCats (6-4) went into Sunday’s game against Keene (7-2) looking for their first win of the season against the Swamp Bats.
The ‘Cats scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a commanding 7-0 lead en route to an 8-5 win.
The ‘Cats sent 10 hitters to the plate in that inning alone. It was all they would need in the victory.
Pitcher Braxton Wilks was solid in his second start of the season for the ‘Cats. He gave up no runs off five hits and struck out three. Just like his first start last Monday, he pitched five innings of shutout ball improving his record to 2-0 and keeping his ERA at 0.00.
After a day off Monday, the ‘Cats will return to action Tuesday night against the Plymouth Pilgrims at Joe Wolfe Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
Peter Lannoo will be on the mound for the ‘Cats making his third start of the season. He is 1-0 with a 1.63 ERA and leads the ‘Cats in strikeouts with 14 which is more than twice as many as any of his teammates.
