MCLA Men's Tennis Falls in Conference Semis

CASTLETON, Vt. - The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team clinched its spot in the North Atlantic Conference East Division Championship Saturday afternoon with a 9-0 victory in the semifinal round over the fourth-seeded MCLA Trailblazers.

The Chargers dropped just five points in doubles play and notched six straight-sets singles victories to secure their spot in the final for the fifth straight season. The Trailblazers, meanwhile, finished their season at 4-7 overall.

The appearance in the NAC semifinals were the first for MCLA since they joined the NAC back in 2014.

Colby Sawyer went on to capture the league title, defeating the host Spartans 5-0, later in the afternoon.

SOFTBALL

WORCESTER, Mass.—The Worcester State University softball team swept a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic conference doubleheader with visiting MCLA in afternoon play Saturday at Rockwood Park.

The Lancers won the opener, 9-0 after five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule. The Lancers took the second game, winning 10-4 over MCLA.

With the wins, Worcester State earns the title of MASCAC Regular Season Champions and will host the MASCAC playoffs next weekend. Worcester State concludes the regular season with a record of 22-17-1 overall and 12-2 in MASCAC. The Trailblazers FELL to 11-21 overall and 5-9 in the conference.

BASEBALL

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester State University baseball team concluded its 2016 campaign with a sweep of MCLA on Saturday afternoon as they held the Trailblazers to 10 hits in the doubleheader.

In a 4-1 loss in Game 1, Adams, Nate Gutmann had an RBI single for the Trailblazers.

Worcester State won the second game, 13-0.

MCLA is scheduled to finish the season Tuesday at home against Williams.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Visiting Salem State (7-8, 2-5 MASCAC) received five goals each from Erin Riley and Courtney Smith as they rolled past the MCLA Trailblazers on Senior Day Saturday afternoon from Shewcraft Field.

Natalie Caney paced MCLA with four goals and an assist for five points. Mackenzie Cutler ended the game with three markers.

Zoe Elwell took the loss for MCLA (3-11, 0-7), stopping 10 shots.
