Alibozek Pitches MCLA Baseball to Win

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The MCLA baseball team erupted for five runs in the bottom of the first inning and went on to a 10-3 win over Elms College Thursday afternoon at Joe Wolfe Field.

The Trailblazers snapped a 12-game skid as they improved to 4-18 on the season.  Elms dropped to 27-10 on the season.

Nate Alibozek (Hoosac Valley) earned the win going a season best 5 innings to improve to 1-2.  Andrew Casteel also had a season high three hits in the game.

MCLA wasted little time getting to Elms starting pitcher Anthony Palumbo. The Trailblazers pounded out seven hits in the inning to take control. Liam Nolan (Taconic) belted a two run home run to start the scoring for MCLA.  It was his second homer of the season for the Trailblazers. Slayter Aubin (Drury) also had a two run single in the inning while Nick DiSanti (Mount Greylock) drove in the other run.

Elms clawed its way back in the game with a pair of runs in the third and a single run in the fourth to pull within 5-3.  MCLA got a run back in the sixth and then put the game away with a four run uprising in the seventh.  Andrew Casteel rapped out his third hit of the day to provide the key blow in the seventh.

Alibozek tossed the first five innings for MCLA to earn the win. He improved to 1-2 on the season.  Alibozek allowed three runs (two earned) and scattered eight hits. The MCLA bullpen was solid as Robert Jutras (Drury) tossed two scoreless frames, while Todd Hunt and Eamonn Andre each threw one to close it out for the Trailblazers.

MCLA owned a 17-9 advantage in the hit column and the defense turned three key double plays to end the second, third, and fifth innings.

Casteel paced the offense with three hits while Nolan ended with four runs batted in.  Bill Pulasky (Mount Greylock), Nate Gutmann (McCann Tech), Nolan, Aubin, and DiSanti each had two hits in the win. Gutmann scored three times for MCLA.

Elms was paced offensively by Stephen Harrison with three hits and an RBI. Palumbo absorbed the loss settling down to throw six innings, but allowing 15 hits and 6 runs.

MCLA is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Bridgewater State.
