NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The MCLA softball team got an eight- inning shutout from senior Rachel Quackenbush to defeat the Fitchburg State Falcons 1-0 in game one of a MASCAC twinbill on Saturday afternoon.  The Falcons turned the tides in game two, shutting out the Trailblazers 3-0 to earn the split.

The Trailblazers (9-13, 3-3) and Falcons (10-12, 4-2) engaged in an old-fashioned pitchers duel in the opener. Quackenbush went toe to toe with FSU's Kaylee Sylvestre. Each pitcher went the distance and MCLA finally broke through in the eighth inning to earn the win.

Mount Greylock graduate Michaela Dinicola opened with a bunt single, and Abby Lucas' hard hit ball to short was misplayed putting runners at first and second with nobody out. Chelsea Coleman laid down a bunt that was thrown away at first allowing Dinicola to come around with the walk off run.

In game two, the Falcons plated two runs in the third and another in the fourth off MCLA starter Kate Henault to seize control.

MCLA is back in action on Monday when it travesl to Mass. Maritime Academy.

BASEBALL

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Fitchburg State's duo of Tommy Parsons and Javier Lozada threw complete games and allowed just six hits all afternoon in leading the Falcons past the MCLA baseball team 6-1 and 12-0 in the nightcap.  With the victories, the Falcons improve to 11-14 overall and sit at 4-2 in conference play.  The Trailblazers drop their tenth straight games as they are now 3-16 overall and 0-6 in the MASCAC.

In the opener, the Falcons (11-14, 4-2 MASCAC) wasted little time in getting on the board.  Andrew Currie led off the game with a single to center and Lozada followed suit with another putting runners at the corners. Lozada stole second base on the next pitch, and then Currie would score on a wild pitch that moved Lozada to third. He came around to score on Brenden Cutler's RBI double off MCLA starting pitcher Liam Nolan (Taconic High).

In game two, the Falcons scored single runs in the second and third innings of MCLA starter Todd Hunt. They ultimately took control with a four-run fifth and add four more in the sixth and two in the seventh to cruise home.

The Trailblazers are back at it on Patriots Day, traveling to Mass. Maritime Academy for a doubleheader.
