CHICOPEE, Mass. -- The North Adams fifth- and sixth-grade girls travel basketball team finished its season with a championship run at the Ed Szlats Memorial Basketball Tournament.
North Adams went 5-0 on the weekend, starting with a come-from-behind win over Amherst in which only five North Adams players were suited up, and continuing with wins over East Greenbush, N.Y., and Pittsfield CYC in pool play
North Adams then played a semifinal against Easthampton. After falling behind early in the second half, North Adams ramped up the defensive pressure and held Easthampton to four points over the last 12 minutes.
North Adams took control early in the championship game against the Golden Knights of Great Barrington and were on its way to a 31-21 victory.
As a result of the five wins North Adams finishes the season with a record of 18-10.
