NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The MCLA women's basketball team rolled past visiting Fitchburg State, 75-21, on Wednesday in MASCAC action from the Amsler Campus Center Gym.
Kayla Hotaling led MCLA (10-6, 2-3 MASCAC) with 15 points and 9 rebounds. Karina Mattera ended with 12 points as 12 Trailblazers broke into the scoring column. The Trailblazer defense held Fitchburg (0-16) to just 16 percent shooting and caused 40 turnovers.
MCLA wasted little time in putting this one away as they forced the Falcons into 24 first half turnovers en route to a commanding 45-14 halftime lead. Hotaling and Mattera keyed the offense combining for 25 points over the opening twenty minutes of play. MCLA also shot a solid 52 percent from the floor in the half.
The Trailblazers are off until Monday when they'll travel to Springfield for a non conference tilt.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The Fitchburg State men's basketball team went on a 21-0 run midway through the second half as the Falcons clamped down on the MCLA Trailblazers and cruised to a 78-61 MASCAC win tonight in North Adams.
The Falcons (10-7, 3-1) trailed by seven early in the second half when MCLA's Khalil Paul made a jumper on the opening possession making the score 34-27 in favor of the Trailblazers (4-12, 0-5). The Falcons then asserted themselves, using an 8-0 spurt to grab the lead at 35-34 on a pair of Leonny Burgos free throws.
The Trailblazers received a game best 23-point effort from Joe Wiggins
The Trailblazers return to non league play on Saturday when they travel to Fisher.
