Southern Vermont Men Top MCLA at RPI Tourney

TROY, N.Y. – The Southern Vermont College men's basketball team went on a 26-0 run early in the second half en route to a 106-44 win over Mass College of Liberal Arts on Saturday in the first round of the Tri-State Shootout, hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
 
The Mountaineers improved to 6-2 and advanced to play the host Engineers in the championship game on Sunday. MCLA fell to 2-7 and faces Vermont Tech on Sunday in the consolation game.
 
SVC led 41-19 at halftime, but the Trailblazers scored 10 of the first 13 points of the second half, forcing the Mountaineers to call a timeout. Following that break, Southern Vermont scored the next 26 points of the game for a 44-point lead, 73-29, behind 10 points from William Bromirski. Davante Jordan added nine points in the stretch.
 
Bromirski finished with a game-high 27 points to lead five players in double figures. Jordan had 13 points and DeShawn Hamlet had a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds.
 
Khalil Paul led MCLA in scoring with 17 points, while Dakari Hannah-Wornum had 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
 
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- The Union College women's basketball team snapped MCLA's seven-game winning streak with a 62-49 win on Saturday.
 
Abby Katz had 12 points and tied her career high with 10 rebounds to lead Union (5-1).
 
Courtney McLaughlin led MCLA (7-3) with 12 points and Brayleigh Hanlon added 10, while Kayla Hotaling led the Trailblazers with six rebounds and added seven points.
 
MCLA is off until Jan. 4, when they return to the Amsler Campus Center to take on Southern Vermont College.
