NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The Worcester State men's soccer defeated MCLA in penalty kicks on Tuesday to advance to the semifinals of the MASCAC tournament.

The Trailblazers (5-9-3) rallied from a 1-0 half-time deficit to tie the game in the 63rd minute when Anthony Basile scored his 10th goal of the season on an assist from Edward Boateng.

The score remained 1-1 through the final 27 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods.

In the shootout, the Lancers (6-9-2) jumped out to a 3-1 lead after three rounds thanks to a pair of saves by keeper Jason Barrett.

But MCLA stayed in it thanks to back-to-back stops by Kamron Anderson, who also had eight saves during the game.

That sent the shootout to sudden death, tied, 3-3.

Each team made their first two tries in the sudden death. In the eighth round of PKs, MCLA's try hit the cross bar, leaving an opening for Worcester State, and Andre Ipojuca hit the ball low, right and inside the post to end the match.

The Lancers moved on to meet second-seeded Framingham State in Friday's semis.
