To the Editor:

As we come to a close on this tightly contested campaign, what this election is really about is Mayor Alcombright's six years in office, what has he accomplished in that time, and are those of you who live here better off than you were six years ago? The mayor says we have a vibrant downtown. We don't. Our family has been there for over three generation, and I can tell you our city's downtown is dying! Remember The Transcript, Nasiffs, Gateway Chevrolet, Haddad Ford, Staples, McClellands, Friendly's, Goodyear, Sleepys, Shima, I Got Goodies, and many more, and lets not forget the Mohawk. The key to our downtown, a diamond in the rough, six years of nothing !!!

What this city needs now more than ever is strong leadership. While Councilors are told we need $60 million in capital improvements he wants to build a skateboard park. After a failed Prop 2 1/2 override, Mayor Alcombright handed out raises. Over a year ago, he said the city is not responsible for the Fright Yard Pub Lawsuit. Yet now it is coming back to the taxpayers. While pushing Heritage Park for 2 years and spending over a million dollars we have nothing ...

The mayor often speaks of fiscal responsibility and transparency, the facts prove otherwise. The MSBA (Massachusetts School Building Authority) called him out on not providing public meeting at the start of the Conte Project. He spent $150,000 on the Transfer Station without brining it to the council. He has a loan agreement on the Carriddi project which will cost $34,000 which did not come before the council. It seems more important to inform us of a water main break, than to tell us what is really going on.

Our City needs a proven leader. John Barrett reminds me of Bill Belichick, not all warm and fuzzy. Football fans and media around the country don't like him, but those that know leadership acknowledge he is one of the best coaches in NFL History. He is tough, focused, demanding, loyal and very sucessful. Belichick is loved by those who know him, all he asks is to do your job.

John Barrett is our Bill Belichick! A vote for John Barrett is a vote for a proven battle-tested leader !
