MONTPELIER, Vt. — The Vermont Mountaineers on Saturday ended the North Adams SteepleCats’ season with a 4-0 victory in the final game of the best-of-three New England Collegiate Baseball League Northern Division Championship Series.
Vermont scored one run in the first and one in the second then tacked on single runs in the fifth and eighth while getting a combined seven-hit shutout from three different pitchers.
Matthew Kostalos took the loss on the mound for North Adams, going six innings and allowing three runs, two earned. Tanner Bird allowed on earned run in 1-2/3 innings of work for the ‘Cats.
Joe DeLuca went 2-for-3 with double to lead North Adams’ offense.
The Mountaineers move on to face Southern Division champion Mystic for the NECBL title.
