Fireworks are an integral part of America’s Fourth of July celebrations all over the country, and our local show in North Adams is one of the most prestigious in Western Massachusetts. Our celebration draws thousands of viewers from the Capital region of New York State, Southern Vermont, and Berkshire County. For an evening of all-American fun, grab some tickets to the annual 4th of July SteepleCatsgame, and stick around for the fireworks, which start immediately afterward, at approximately 9:30pm.

These concerts combine great music with the beautiful natural backdrop of Windsor Lake. Pack a picnic, bring a chair or blanket, and let the sweet sounds of music and water carry you away on a warm summer night. Concessions are available at the lake, but people are welcome to bring their own food. Parking is free, and swimming, fishing, kayaking, and canoeing are allowed at the lake. All cancellations will be called by 3PM on the day of the concert. Rain Dates tbd.

WordXWord makes a pre-festival stop in North Adams with a feature performance by New York-based poet Thomas Fucaloro, author of  two books published by Three Rooms Press. His most recent book, “It Starts from the Belly and Blooms,” has received rave reviews. Fucaloro will perform at the Parlor Cafe, 303 Ashland Ave, North Adams. The performance will be preceded by an open mic for poetry and spoken word. Anyone interested in reading during an Open Mic or competing in a Poetry Slam prelim should visit wXw365.org for details and to preregister for one of the limited number of slots. Thomas Fucaloro is the author of 2 books published by three rooms press. His most recent book, “It Starts from the Belly and Blooms” has received rave reviews. Fucaloro has been on 2 national slam teams, was the Inspired Word’s 2012 Grand Slam Champion and was a featured performer during WordXWord 2014. In addition, Thomas is a co-founding editor of Great Weather for Media and is a writing coordinator at the Harlem Children’s Zone.

Sungsook Setton is a Korean-American artist and calligrapher. Besides her training in brush painting and calligraphy under Chinese and Korean masters, she has also studied Western art in Germany, the UK and the United States, obtaining her BA in Studio Art at Stony Brook University and MFA in interdisciplinary art at Goddard College. Setton's work has been widely exhibited in Canada, the UK, Taiwan, Korea and the United States.

The Drury High School Jazz Band will hold a summer fundraiser at Mingos Sports Bar and Grille, 41 Roberts Drive. The jazz band will play popular jazz tunes. Patrons should mention the DHS band and Mingos will donate a percentage of the evenings proceeds to the Drury High School Band Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund assists former band members in college and current band members attending college camps and private lessons.
