The North Adams Public Library will once again offer genealogy classes for anyone interested in learning how to put leaves on your family tree. Alan Doyle Horbal, genealogist, will be teaching an introduction to genealogy, including, how to use the United States Census, 1790-1940, Ellis Island and other ports of entry, along with international research for Canada, Poland, Galicia, and England. Classes will be on May 7, 14, 21 and 28 in the library's third floor community room. 3rdThursdays returns for its ninth season with the Creative Youth theme. The event celebrates youth performers, dancers, musicians, artists and more. The largest free outdoor event series in the Berkshires, 3rd Thursdays are family friendly and open to all. North Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from West Street to Linden Street and will be filled with music, performance, food and community activities. Rejuvenation efforts this year include: the Greylock Federal Credit Union community art project and outdoor chalk art gallery; a smoke free family area featuring a different bounce house each month sponsored by Carr Hardware; a food court with food trucks and vendors in an area where there are no existing restaurants; café tables in the street; destination areas designed for the different 3rd Thursday activities structured to support the themes Relax, Play and Create and a 3rd Thursday After Party at the Whitney Center for the Arts featuring live music and refreshments for purchase. This month features Ryan Hobler, an eclectic folk-pop singer and genre-jumping songwriter. |

The second annual Lenox Rhubarb Festival celebrating local rhubarb (and only rhubarb) will take place in the Lenox Library’s Reading Park at 18 Main St, rain or shine. The Rhubarb Chili contest, with entries from Lenox restaurants Olde Heritage Tavern, Cranwell and Trattoria Il Vesuvio (previous winner), invites visitors to taste each one and vote their favorite. The winner will be announced at 2 p.m. Hand-made strawberry-rhubarb and ginger-rhubarb pies, baked locally by For the Love of Pie & Madeleine's Café in Pittsfield, will be available for sale. Rhubarb juice made from local rhubarb will be provided by Ventfort Hall Mansion and Gilded Age Museum. Scott Harrington of Lenox, horticulturalist and landscape designer, will offer rhubarb plants for sale. “Great Rhubarb Recipes” published locally by Storey Press will be for sale for $5.
