Parents and teenagers (over the age of 14) are invited to attend. The event will also include a raffle as well as food. Let’s Talk About Sex, a documentary film by James Houston, looks at how American attitudes toward adolescent sexuality impact today’s teenagers.  Local photographer, Julian Grey, will debut his latest collection of art that includes images aimed at provoking conversations about sex and sexuality. The film will be followed by a panel discussion with local teens and community leaders on what we can do in the Berkshires to ensure youth make healthy decisions about their futures.

The North Adams Public Library will once again offer genealogy classes for anyone interested in learning how to put leaves on your family tree. Alan Doyle Horbal, genealogist, will be teaching an introduction to genealogy, including, how to use the United States Census, 1790-1940, Ellis Island and other ports of entry, along with international research for Canada, Poland, Galicia, and England. The Northern Berkshire Community Coalition's monthly forum will talk about the opening of a community supported space for teens in Northern Berkshire.  Participants will get a better understanding of how nbCC's youth development model will be used in the creation of a teen center; the history and process of creating a community supported space for teens; the age and demographics that a teen center would serve; and how including teens in this process strengthens the relationship between the teens and the community. The forum will be held at the First Baptist Church in North Adams (please use the Eagle Street entrance). The organizers of the Friendship Center Food Pantry ask friends who attend the nbCC forums to please bring a non-perishable food item for donation to the pantry.

North Adams will kick off its first-ever Berkshire Mayors Fitness Challenge, at the Northern Berkshire YMCA. This year Mayor Alcombright and the city of North Adams are challenging Mayor Bianchi and the city of Pittsfield. A collaboration of people and organizations, along with the city of North Adams, came together to plan and organize this 10 week challenge and the kick-off event. The kick-off will include an inspirational speech given by Mayor Alcombright, and a health expo that will provide offerings from a holistic variety of health and wellness practitioners in our community. There will be an opportunity for physical activity as well in a whole group obstacle course, which will have stations incorporating the fitness partners joining in on the challenge. There will be a free raffle as well.

The Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice is offering a series of support group sessions for hospice families and others in the community grieving a recent death. The sessions will be held in North Berkshire on consecutive Tuesdays from early May to early June, including May 5, 12, 19 and 26 and June 2. Each session will be held in the first floor meeting room of the First Congregational Church on Main Street in North Adams. Participants can enter through the glass doors connecting the church with the education building. Registration is required.
