BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The MCLA baseball team earned a split with the Bridgewater State Bears on Tuesday.

Todd Hunt scattered six hits and three walks as he threw a complete game 1-0 shutout of the Bears. Bridgewater had runners on in every inning but the fourth, but Hunt never allowed a runner to reach third base all day.

MCLA scored its only run of the day in the third off Bears starter David Holmes. They did the damage with two outs; Alon Willing singled, Mike Sullivan followed with a single and Willing went to third. Wiliing would score the only run of the game on a passed ball.

Hunt and the defense made it stand up. Bridgewater (11-17, 4-8) had two runners on in the sixth with one out and the defense turned a double play to end the inning. The Bears put two more on in the seventh with one down, but Hunt got pinch-hitter Kevin Sugermeyer on strikes and Jacob Souza popped up to end the game.

Game Two was a different story as Bridgewater scored four times in the second off starter Liam Nolan. Nolan yielded seven hits in four innings and took the loss as MCLA fell 8-1.

MCLA (10-12, 3-7 MASCAC) hosts Salem State in a double-header on Wednesday.
