|Drury High School Names Top Students For 2012|

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Drury High School has named Max Quinn as valedictorian and Katie Candiloro as salutatorian of the class of 2012.
Both will speak at graduation ceremonies on Thursday, June 7, at 7 p.m. in the school gymnasium.
Quinn, son of Lou Ann Quinn of North Adams, has been class president for the past three years, Student Council president, and student representative to the School Committee and the School Building Committee.
His academic awards include Nu Sigma and Pro Merito honor societies, the Williams College Book Award, Principal's Award all three years for academic excellence, and this year's Achievement Awards in English, Mathematics and Social Studies. For community service, he received "The Nathans" Service Leader of the Year. Quinn participated in football, basketball and baseball throughout high school and was the captain of the football and baseball teams during his senior year.
For the past two years, he was the Student Ambassador with the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association and received the MIAA Award for Student Ambassador Service. He has been the recipient of the Outstanding Freshman Award for Football, the Babe Ruth Highest Batting Average and Team Player Award, and the Babe Ruth Coach's Award. He has been a member of Drury High School's band, marching band, and jazz band throughout high school. He was selected for the Massachusetts All State Band for three years and the Western District Band for six years, sponsored by the Massachusetts Music Educators Association.
This past summer, Quinn participated in the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine in Boston. He will be attending Brown University in Providence, R.I., in the fall to major in biology.
Candiloro, daughter of Mark and Susan Candiloro of North Adams, has been a member of the Senior Leadership Council, the Hoosic River Revival Steering Committee, Senior Tribute Committee, Yearbook staff, Freshman Reception Committee and Pep Club. She participated in the Williams College Chemistry Program and is alsoo a ROPES Camp mentor, Fourth Grade Campout counselor, counselor at Camp Holy Cross.
She has been a volunteer at St. Elizabeth of Hungary church and was an active participant in service learning projects including a community blood drive, "Clothes 4 Kids," Habitat for Humanity, "Soles for Souls" and "Day of Play" service projects. Candiloro will also be participating in the Haiti Plunge this year.
Her academic awards include both the Nu Sigma and Pro Merito honor societies, high honors, Principal's Award, Student-Athlete of the Month, and the RPI Book Award. Candiloro also received Achievement Awards in Foreign Language and Technology Education. During her four years, she has been an active member of varsity soccer and varsity swimming, where she was elected captain of both during her senior year. In addition, she has been a member of the track team, the varsity softball team, Ajax Premier Soccer Team, was a participant in Swim across America, was honored at the National Women in Sports Day and is a member of the YMCA Swim Team, for which she has been a captain for the past two years.
This fall, Candiloro will be attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where she will be majoring in biomedical engineering.
