ADAMS, Mass. — One of the sure signs of spring is the sudden appearance of American flags in local cemeteries placed at the graves of departed veterans. This appearance is a reminder that Memorial Day is coming and the summer season is just around the corner.

In Adams, the flags are placed on the graves by local volunteers, Boy Scouts and veterans representing the American Legion Post 160 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1995. This year, the flags will be placed on Saturday, May 19, beginning at 9 a.m.

Flag coordinator John Bordeau says local volunteers are always welcome to lend a helping hand in distributing the flags. He will be at Bellevue Cemetery at 9 a.m. on Saturday to distribute the materials.

Mr. Bordeau welcomes anyone who whishes to "help out" to be at the cemetery.

All participants are invited to a pizza party at the Adams American Legion once the project is completed.
