BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. — MCLA senior left hander Daniel Gaines was tabbed as the MASCAC pitcher of the week by the league offices. Gaines went 1-1 in a pair of starts, including a 3-2 victory over MASCAC tournament-bound Framingham State.
Gaines began the week as the tough luck loser in a 3-2 complete-game effort against Westfield State on Tuesday. In that contest, the senior allowed three earned runs on eight hits with a pair of strikeouts.
He followed that game with one of his best performances of the season in a 3-2 win over the Rams on Saturday. Gaines allowed just an earned run after allowing six hits. He struck out five in that contest. He walked only one batter all week.
Gaines evened his record at 5-5 on the season. The honor marks the first time this season that a Trailblazer earned the award.
MCLA concluded its season at 14-23 following a modest three-game winning streak.
