FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Behind a 25 point, 14 rebound performance from Jamal Brown, the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts' men's basketball team defeated MASCAC rival Framingham State University 68-59 Thursday night to improve to 2-2 in the league.
MCLA is 5-12 overall. The Rams drop to 0-5 in conference play, 6-11 overall.
MCLA held a 33-29 halftime lead over the Rams behind Brown's 13 points. Vernon Cross came off the bench to add 10 in the opening period for the Trailblazers.
Early in the second half, Framingham cut the lead to 35-33 on a pair of Jamie Henderson free throws, but MCLA quickly answered with a 14-4 run to take a 49-37 lead with under 14 minutes to play. Framingham would cut the lead to six on a pair of occasions, but each time MCLA would answer pushing the lead back in to double digits.
Brown was 9-14 from the floor to notch his double double. The 25 points were a career high at MCLA. Cross was the only other Trailblazer in double figures, finishing with 13 points, including a trio of three pointers. Michael Young struggled from the floor, but did add 5 assists.
For the Rams, they were led by Andre Santana's 13 points. Adeyemi Ajoa chipped in with 10 points, while Henderson would finish with a team best 11 rebounds.
MCLA will return home to face Fitchburg State University on Saturday. Tip off is at 3 p.m.
