PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Greylock Federal has awarded 13 area high school students with $500 college scholarships as part of the credit union’s “Treat Everyone Better Than They Expect” scholarship program.
“Greylock’s scholarships are presented to students who demonstrate an outstanding level of community service and respect for their peers, their families and their teachers,” said Marilyn L. Sperling, president of Greylock. “We hope that this program not only helps families fund the increasing cost of higher education but also will enforce positive behavior that helps to develop admirable values such as mutual respect and tolerance, a positive attitude, and service to and concern for others.”
The class of 2011 was nominated by teachers and guidance counselors in area high schools. The recipients are:

Joseph Babeu, North Adams – Drury High School
Michaela Murphy, Pittsfield – Pittsfield High School
Laura Smith, Great Barrington – Mount Everett Regional School
Abigail McDermott, Pittsfield – Taconic High School
Brittany Rancourt, North Adams – McCann Technical School
Heather Carey, Housatonic – Lenox High School
Joshua Koch, Lee – Lee Middle and High School
Sara Ann Scorpa, Lanesborough – Mt. Greylock Regional High School
Samantha Howe, Cheshire – Hoosac Valley High School
Bridget Donovan, Dalton – Wahconah High School
Shawna Norton, West Stockbridge – Monument Mountain High School
