NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Housatonic took home two titles from this weekend's John Gaudreau Memorial Youth Basketball Tournament.   Housatonic beat the Boys Club in the boys third- and fourth-grade final and topped Adams in the boys seventh/eigth grade final.   The South County program also reached the title game in the fifth/sixth grade bracket, where the Dalton Blue team prevailed to take the title.   In the third/fourth grade girls competition, host North Adams defeated the Girls Club in Monday's championship game.   The Greylock seventh/eighth team advanced to the quarter-finals, where they were edged by Adams, 54-52, in a game where Carson Meczywor scored 33

A partnership between two North County youth softball leagues will open up competitive opportunities for their “house” leagues and a world of opportunities beyond.   The Adams Lassie League and Northern Berkshire Softball have entered an agreement that will allow teams from each league to play against one another this spring. And Adams’ charter with Babe Ruth Softball will allow the leagues to contribute players to newly formed teams eligible to compete for chances to play in the Babe Ruth World Series.   The new partnership in part revives an old arrangement that saw North Adams and Adams teams play against one another, Lassie League board member Gary Puppolo

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The job of a police officer means dealing with people on their worst days, day after day.   And it wears on the officers. Eight years ago, Officer Darren Derby started getting involved with the Law Enforcement Torch Run fundraising efforts for the Special Olympics. He's raised more than a half-million dollars in support of those athletes.   He does it because he feels those athletes do more for him than he could ever do for them.
